How to Become a More Skillful Soccer Player?

This guide is all about some general soccer tips I think you will find beneficial, especially when you really want to play your best soccer yet.

These tips are pretty near and dear to my heart, and I think you’ll get some good value out of them too!

Running for 3-4 Miles With Hill Runs

Conditioning is one of the most important things that you need to learn. If you aren’t fit, you’re not going to survive your first soccer game, or last long in the game to meet your 500th soccer game.

If you have dreams of being a professional soccer player, you’re going to have to table them until you get your conditioning where it needs to be.

The best players in the world train very hard to be able to move around the field at will. I like to jog for at least 3-4 miles between my regular soccer practice times and games.

Yes, you read that right – this is on top of normal training. It might sound like a lot, but it’s definitely worth it!

Hill sprints are another great addition to your training. All you have to do is find a hill and sprint up it 5 times or so.

If you’re just getting started, don’t’ be afraid to scale this down – you don’t want to injure yourself through overtraining.

Learn How to Play Soccer With Both Feet

Here’s something most won’t have the guts to tell you: play soccer with both feet!

Yes, it’s true that many soccer players only use one foot while playing soccer.

But you’re not trying to be like most soccer players, are you? It’s better to actually be extraordinary as much as you can.

That’s what’s going to get you noticed by coaches, scouts, and other people that can turn your dream of playing soccer professionally into a reality.

Switching feet strengthens your body so you have as few weak points as possible. You want to be consistent with this – results won’t come overnight.

You might get frustrated. But you’ll thank me later when you can juggle and dribble with your weak foot like you would with your more dominant foot.

Learn New Things Every Day

If you really want to become a great soccer player, you need to learn something new every day.

I’m not saying that everything you learn is going to be earth shattering, but it all adds up to building your overall soccer skills.

Spend at least 30 minutes on learning new soccer skills every day. The more skills you actually know, the better you will be in the long run.

Watch Pro Games

Try to watch professional soccer games often. This may sound pretty obvious but believe me you would be amazed if you realize how few players are actually doing this.

One thing you should keep in mind while watching pro games is to pick a player who actually plays on the same positions as you.

Bring a notebook and write down what he is doing when receiving the ball, how often does he perform runs without the ball, is he playing the ball on first touch and so on. Try then to adapt these things in your own game.

Summary

Keep in mind that nothing happens overnight. You will not become a great soccer player in short time.

Instead, you have to gradually work on improving your soccer skills and focusing on performing them correctly.

Sticking to a good training routine and always work hard are the key things you should keep in mind.
