Dribbling in Soccer is a NO, NO While Playing as The Last Man

I want to share a personal story about soccer dribbling. It is about how my team lost a cup final because I didn’t wanted to listen on my coach. My name is Eric and I have been playing soccer all my life. Last year, my team was playing our first cup final ever and all of us very excited and nervous. Before the start of the game my coach told me that I should not even think on dribbling as the last man.
My position was fullback and I enjoyed it. However, my bad habit was that I liked to act as a forward which resulted in unsuccessful dribbling attempts that our opponent’s took advantage of. However, in this game I promised myself that I would not put my team in these types of situations. I wanted to win that cup trophy and I was 100% focused on my tasks.
So the game started and in the end of first half we scored 1-0 on a free kick. The coach warned us about relaxing too much in the second half but apparently I was not listening. When about 20 minutes of the second half passed our opponents were awarded with a corner kick. One of our players missed to mark his player and suddenly the result was 1-1.
Alright, I thought, we can still make it. But, obviously this was not my day. When there was about 5 minutes left of the game I tried to dribble one of my opponents that was standing to my left. He stole the ball from me, dribbled our keeper and scored 2-1. We lost the final and still today I can feel the anger of my teammates.
So, what I want you to learn from my mistakes is that you should never dribble while playing as the last man. However, the best thing is if you avoid dribbling on your own half on the whole. On that way, you will never put yourself in an embarrassing situation like I did.
Good Luck /Dave
