Follow Up

by Kieran McCleese
(Ohio)

Just last season our team had a penalty kick that disturbed me while being benched on the sideline. So our coach had all his 'star' players in while us others sat on the side line. Sorry I needed to throw that rant in there =).

Anyhow, it was our penalty kick one that would most likely decide the game in the amount of time left. The crowd, and the sidelines were silenced. Our player placed the ball down, stepped back, and then ran up and went for the shot.

It almost seemed as if it was slow-mo watching the ball glide through the air. Then it hit the post and rebounded back out onto the left side of the box. I stood there angrily watching none of my teammates follow the shot up as the ball lay there no one moved except for the keeper which took a while to get to the ball.

What would have been an easy goal was an easy save for the keeper. Remember follow up your shots! ESPECIALLY your penalty kicks.
