How To Pick The Right Soccer Formation For My Team

I am coaching a college soccer team that is solid defensively, however weak offensively. We do not have a typical offensive or defensive center midfielder and are filling the positions with low skilled players. Our two forwards are unable to create attacking opportunities on their own. Any suggestion on the best formation? We are running a 4-4-2.
THE ANSWER
Well, the 4-4-2 is the most balanced one so I would go for it. Also, 4-5-1 could work as well as it will make it possible to keep the ball in the midfield and avoid creating too big gaps between the forwards and your defense line.
Another formation you could try is the 4-2-3-1. As your team is good in defense, the 2 players in the front of the defense line will need to work extra hard up and down the field. However, the 3 + 1 at the top will be able to create more scoring abilities then comparing to playing with 4-4-2.
It is hard to say what formation suits your team best as I have never seen your players in a real soccer game. However, you could try out the formations during the practice first to see how the players respond to them before adapting them in your competition.
