Improve Soccer Skills at The Age of 14?

by Blake
(australia)

I’m 14 years old and I was wondering if I can still develop more skills and better technique? I started playing soccer when I was 5 and when I was 10 I decided to play rugby which I did until I was 13. I then went back to soccer and started to practice seriously.

Since my return I have played division 3 but I have been told that I am a better player than that. I am a right winger or striker and I top scored for my team this year. This season I played up an age and did very well. Despite that I am small I was still one of the better players in my team.

I played futsal with my friends who all play division 1 and reps and I was not noticeable as a bad player. I have been told by my friend’s dad who used to play top level soccer here in Australia that I am a very talented player for someone that has played rugby for so long.

THE ANSWER

Hello Blake, you sound like a real talent to me and you should definitively continue on that path. I believe that you have the right physical abilities (despite that you are small) as you have played rugby for several years.

The answer on whether it is possible to develop your skills is definitively YES. In fact, as a soccer player, you are learning during your whole career. You would surely benefit from the tips on striker and winger position that you can find in my book. If you have minutes over, make sure to check it out.

Make sure to keep on practicing and evaluate your results in order do identity what you can do better. Also, the more you practice, the better you’ll be. Many young soccer players think that there is a secret formula to becoming good at soccer. However, the isn’t, only hard and focused work is what works.
