Improvement

by Sam
(Atlanta,Georgia,USA)

Hello Mirsad,

This is Sam. First I want to say that your site is awesome for soccer players of all ages wanting to learn the game better. Keep up the good work. Next I want to ask you how I can improve my shooting. My shots aren't as powerful and tend to curve away from where I want it.

This has made me very frustrated. I also want to know how to get better at controlling the ball. Sometimes when the ball comes at me I can't control it properly. Please tell me some drills that will help with this.

Lots of thanks, Sam

THE ANSWER

Hello Sam, first of all, thank you for the kind words, it keeps me motivated to work harder on improving my site. Now, to your questions. When it comes to shooting you need to pull your leg backwards as much as possible in order to get a powerful shot. This is covered more closely in this soccer kicking article.

In order to keep the ball in a straight line, you should not move your upper body so much. The more you move it, the harder it will be to strike the ball at the goal and in a nice and clean straight line.

Controlling the ball takes a lot of time to master and generally you should try to keep your body relaxed as much as possible. This is also discussed in the soccer ball control section. I hope this helped.
