The Johann Cruyff Move

"Success is never final; failure is never fatal." J.Paterno

The Johann Cruyff move is a pretty efficient weapon that you should have in your arsenal. You will usually perform this move while playing on the flank or when you want to change your direction quickly.

Here is how to perform the Johann Cruyff move

1. Control
You should keep the ball near your feet and directly in front of you. The center of gravity should be balanced over both of your feet. You need also to allow sufficient room between the ball and your opponent to make it possible to execute the move.

2. Fake a shot
Step past the ball with your supporting foot. The center of gravity should be towards your supporting foot. Exaggerate making a shot with your kicking foot.

3. Switch sides
End your fake with having your toes of your kicking foot pointing downward. Your body weight should be completely on your supporting foot. Now, lightly contact the ball with the inside of your kicking foot so that the ball rolls behind your support leg.

4. Switch your feet
Transfer your body weight to the kicking foot. Point the toes of your supporting foot down.

5. Create space
Turn to face the ball. Now, accelerate in the new direction to create space between you and the opponent. Pass the ball to a near standing teammate or finish the attack with a shot.

Common mistakes to watch out for when performing the Cruyff move

• Forget to fake the shot
• Not stepping past the ball
• The step past the ball facilitates a quick change of direction and acceleration

As with every soccer move you will need to practice often and it may take you a while to learn it properly. But don’t give up; instead try to practice more and harder. Remember that only hard work on the soccer field will bring you success. Keep in mind also to always believe in yourself.
