My Best Soccer Game

by Tony Kolodychuk
(Creston CANADA)

I was 16 years old and playing for the metro u-16 it was fun cause I was with all my friends but playing was too easy (not trying to brag) so I went to the u-18 practice and they laughed at me I was only 5'5 and 120 pounds and everyone else was 5'9 160+ pounds.

The coach said I was more than welcome to come and participate in the tryouts. So the coach gave me 1 day for practice then he gave me 2 games to show what I can do. Man I failed completely during my first game and it was nothing like u-16. Every player was really good and the only thing I had was my touch and my stamina.

I was being knocked off the ball by big players and being shut down by all there defenders. The coach came to me and told me that I could have another shot. Next game was 1 week away and now that I got a feel for what it was like I went out and practiced everyday so that I could keep up a bit more.

Game day came and the coach wished me good luck and laughed which hurt my feelings but I sucked it up, he started me on center midfield (offensive) which was new to me.

That game I scored 3 goals and had 6 assists No one could believe it not even me. The coach allowed me to play on the u-18 metro team where I gained lots of experience and now I am heading out next year for the whitecaps after graduation. Wish me luck :)
