Run and Shoot in Football – The Right Situations

So how do you know when to run and shoot in football? Well, there are many situations where you can shoot from and knowing exactly when to run and shoot in football can be a tricky one.

However, in this article we will take a look at the most common situations where shooting is a good idea. Let’s start…

In The 18 Yard Box (Penalty Area)

A well placed shoot inside the 18 yard box will often result in a goal. However, the important thing is to keep in mind that too much force behind the ball will make it harder to hit the goal.

You should also try to hold the ball on the ground. This will make it harder for the goalkeeper to save the ball. You will also be able to use the inside of your foot which is more accurate than your instep.

Few Yards Outside The 18 Yard Box

This is the ideal situation for shooting and you need to take advantage of it. The important thing here is to act fast.

Your opponents will start to rush at your ass soon as you receive the ball. It is therefore important to put the ball on right place and fire a directly well place shoot at the goal.

Having no Passing Alternatives

This is the optimal situations for run and shoot in football. When you feel that there are no passing alternatives you should go directly for a shot.

It is always a better option to finish an offensive attack with a shoot rather that losing the ball to your opponents.

One of my teammates always used to shoot form 40 yards. When I asked him why he was trying to score a goal from that distance he said that there was no one to pass the ball to.

The funny thing is that there were always at least 4-5 passing alternatives. 🙂 My point is that you should not shoot from 40 yards just because you don’t have any one to pass the ball to.

It is better to pass the ball back to your goalkeeper and restart your offensive attack. Of course, you may get lucky and manage to score a goal from this distance. However, in 99 of 100 shoot you should be lucky if you manage to hit the goal.

Rainy Weather

It is always a good idea to shoot more during rainy weather than under dry and sunny weather. I am not claiming that you will score more goals during rainy weather but your chances of scoring will surely increase.

One of the main reasons for this is that your opponents goalkeeper will have much more harder to grip the ball during a wet and rainy day comparing to a sunny and dry match day.
