Should I play soccer?

by Megan
(Georgia)

I'm a Cross Country runner and Track runner, and I have noticed that the soccer players always seem to be the better runners on the team. I have played soccer once before, but I haven't played in many years. Should I play recreational soccer to enhance my running skills?

THE ANSWER

Well, if you are already a runner then I don’t think that recreational soccer will enhance your running skills any much. You may even cause yourself unnecessary injuries that would hold you off the track for weeks.

My advice is to avoid recreation soccer if you want to improve your running skills because people that are playing recreational soccer rarely give 100%.

I would say that most people playing recreationally usually walk for 90 % of the time. However, if you want to have some fun with your friends then I would absolutely recommend you to play soccer. Good Luck
