Side Volley

by Felipe
(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

I´d like to share a shooting tip that helped me a lot improving my side volley ability. First of all, it is about physics. When you start a drill of side volley, raising the ball above you head and then shooting, you will see that the ball will fall faster than you expect and your foot will pass over the ball.

That happens because the gravity accelerates the ball continuously and if you calculate its path in an uniform movement, instead of an uniformly accelerated movement, you will miss. Most of the player’s don´t realize it, but learn it intuitively, with lots of repetition.

But you can save your time and try to hit just below the ball. You will be surprised that you will actually hit straight to the ball! Good luck!
