Soccer adn Sportsmanship

by Chris
(Staunton, VA)

Hey, everyone. First, I want to congratulate the guy that made this site. It rocks! Anyways, I'm here to talk about sportsmanship. I cannot stress enough on how important this is. My high school team and I were playing a match earlier this week against a team that was supposedly a lot better than us.

At the start of the second half, we were behind 1-2, and our defenders had started to lose their tempers. Our best defender actually received a soft red card because he lost his temper with the referee after a bad call (he kicked an opposing player because he didn't hear the whistle).

After that, our whole team started to lose it. We would have lost the match if it hadn't been for our one forward who scored with just a few minutes left to play, tying the game. Somehow, this gave our team new confidence, and we played better than we have all season. We didn't lose our tempers, and didn't physically take it out on the other team.

So, just be careful, play the game, and have fun! Life goes on after the game, even for professionals like Beckham or Rooney.
