Soccer Ball Pressure

by Austin Goss
(Knoxville, TN, United States)

Hello Mirsad. My name is Austin and I would like to know how much you should pump a soccer ball (to what psi)?

THE ANSWER

Hello Austin

Well, that is a very good question and I am glad that you’ve asked it because I’ve always wondered the same but never had time to figure it out. So, thank you for learning me something new related to soccer training :-)

Anyway, I made some detective research and found out following:

First of all, you should never over or under pressurize your soccer ball. Keep in mind to always follow the manufactures recommendation regarding the air pressure.

You can find this information on most of the soccer balls today. A soccer ball has a general pressure rating between 6-8 lbs or 0.6-0.8 BAR. I recommend you to use a pressure gauge and measure the exact amount of pressure in your ball (after inflating and before you start to play with it).

You should also know that some balls have their recommended pressure values printed in BAR while some of the manufactures prefer to print these values in PSI or LBS. In order to calculate or convert the pressure values of your balls you may use these formulas:

Converting BAR (KGS) ----> PSI (LBS)

X = 14.5037 x The BAR (KGS) amount

Example
Consider that your ball has a recommended pressure of 0.7 BAR printed on it. In order to get this value in PSI, just multiply 0.7 with 14.5037 (0.7 x 14.5037) which is equal to: 10.2

Converting PSI (LBS) ----> BAR (KGS)

X = 0.68948 x The PSI (LBS) amount

Example: Consider that your ball has a recommended pressure of 8 LBS printed on it. In order to get this value in BAR, just multiply 8 with 0.68948 (8 x 0.68948) which is equal to: 5.5

I hope that this helped you and if you have further questions (regarding soccer training or anything related to it) don’t hesitate to contact me.

/Mirsad.
