Soccer Forward Tips

by Jeff
(USA)

As a forward you know the importance of scoring goals. If you don?t score you can be pretty sure that your coach will put you aside and give some other player a chance on your position. It is therefore crucial to keep on delivering because a goal is a goal no matter how you score it. Further, if you don?t score goals your confidence will decrease as well. The more goals you score, the easier you will have to keep playing on the same level. So, here are my 4 tips for how to become a goal scoring machine:

1. Be resolute when you are in front of the goal. Do not think too much. Don?t analyze with yourself whether you should dribble the keeper, shoot at his right or left. Simply, the first thing you think of, simply stick to it. You see, I?ve learned that a forward?s biggest enemy is his own brain. The more you analyze the bigger the chance is that you will miss.

2. Do not shoot and hope for the best. Just getting the ball on the goal is not enough. You need to have a plan behind your shot. Sure, you may beat poor keepers but to beat the most skillful ones you will need a good plan.

3. Learn to finish with both feet. To score a lot of goals you need to take advantage of every chance you get. Also, you need to shot quickly and with accuracy. There is no time to first move the ball on your right foot and then finish the attack. Simply, learn to shoot with both feet as all great forwards are able to do it.

4. Heading is important as well. As a forward you also need to use your head. In fact, a lot of forwards are really great at using their head for scoring. Don?t limit yourself to only using you feet as it will impact on your scoring. Remember, you must score, it doesn?t matter how you do it, just score!
