Soccer positions

by Carlos Silva
(College Station, Texas, United States)

Depending on what I am looking at is the type of formation I usually apply. Whether I want to be more offensive or more defensive, I try to play with at least 4 in the back. Usually, three center backs and one sweeper.

This however does not allow me to have a quick counter attack and slows down the offensive strategy. Since I don’t have left and right backs I like to use two wings one defensive midfield and one attacking midfielder.

This will allow me to have a 5th defender when defending. Hence the attacking midfield allows me to have a third forward. I like to play close to the sidelines so the wings usually carry the ball along the sidelines.
