Soccer Shooting and Accuracy

I was at soccer practice last night and I was trying to figure out how to get the ball where I want it to go. My coach told me that I need to be thinking about where I want the ball to go. For example top left corner. I tried that but it was not working for me. I was wondering how to get my shoots to where I want them and how to make them accurate as well!

Sincerely, Paige

THE ANSWER

Your coach is right when it comes to the thinking part, but you have to think on the performing part as well. The crucial thing is to have your foot point in the direction of where you want the ball to go. If you don’t do that, you will rarely be able to shoot with accuracy. Make sure to arch your back (backwards) if you want to get lift on the ball.

I want you also to realize that shooting with instep is harder than with the inside part of your foot. An instep shot is much more difficult to control and usually you will get best results if you try to shot with your inside (especially inside and just outside the 18 yard box).
