Soccer Striker Goal Drought

by Gavin
(Johannesburg, South Africa)

We went seven games without a loss or draw then two draws against one of the bottom/and log leader team. This is when the strikers just seemed to malfunction. All goals scored since have come from my midfielders. What could be the cause?

THE ANSWER

Well, there could be a lot of causes. For example, your players are not focused enough, they were out at the club before the game, and your key players are tired…

As you realize, it is hard to say what could be the main cause but generally you should start to analyze the poor results if you notice that your team is performing badly 4-5 games in a row without any significant improvements.

You could also ask the players about their opinion and what they believe is the main cause behind the bad results. Also, ask them what they believe is the best way to avoid the same bad results in the future.

However, do not let the players decide how you will play, or allow them to comment a teammate’s performance. This can cause gaps in the team and you can be accused for not doing your job properly. Trust me; I’ve seen this happen several times.
