Start To Play Soccer at Age of 23?

by Nikola
(Germany)

Hello Mirsad

I would like to ask you one thing if is possible for you to answer me. When I was a kid (13-14 years) I was playing soccer in a club but then I moved to play basketball and I have played it on professional level. Now I have stopped playing basketball.

Do you think that is too late to start playing soccer (I haven’t forgot playing it but I know that in order to become great player all u need is work, nothing else) again and become successful at it? I know that they say: It’s never too late for anything.

Can basketball skills help you in soccer and your height also? I am 191 cm tall. Is that an advantage in any way or not? On 100m without the ball I run 11.20 sec I am 23 years old. Thank you very much for your answer.

All the best, Nikola

THE ANSWER

Hello Nikola, I definitely believe that it is not too later for you to succeed in soccer. The fact that you’ve already played it before is of big advantage. You are also aware of that hard work is the way to go and this will also help you get into the game faster comparing to someone that has not understand this yet. You are also well-trained which is also a big plus.

I do not think that basketball will help you so much regarding the ball skills but this depends on which position you will be playing at. I think that you should perform pretty well as fullback as you do not need any superb ball skills in order to fulfill your duties.

However, you may also even perform well on other positions as well but it is hard for me to give you a honest answer because I’ve never seen you play before. I hope that this helped you and I wish you all the best with your soccer career.
