Stop and Go Soccer Move

This move is for the offensive players (but it can be used by defenders as well). While running down the field towards your opponent’s goal, check first if there is a defender chasing you.

If so, accelerate a bit and then quickly put your foot on the top of the ball and stop it for 1 second. If everything goes well, the defender will keep running giving you a few seconds to pass or make a break to the goal.

Yes, this move is pretty basic but if you study the professional players you’ll notice that it is frequently used. The stop and go move will only work if the defender is faster than you. However, if the defender is slow you will not win anything by performing it as the defender will catch you up if you perform the move.

As you realize, you have to adapt your moves on depending on how skillful your opponents are. Some moves works better for some type of defenders while others will not.

In other words, make sure to vary your move and don’t just perform the same move over and over as you will become predictable and easy to stop.
