Nice NEW
by: Anonymous

Got to say I use this when I play Football Manager.

Defensively the two wide men need the ability to run run run to track back and cover attacks down the wing, not to mention get forward to offer an outlet out wide when attacking. I've always had problems facing 4231 formations as they constantly have their wide men in the wings in advance of where your wide men will be when possession is lost.
Generally coming through the centre is not an option for the opposition with your man sitting in front of the centre back three and your advanced midfielders tracking back causing problems so that the wing is the only option. The flanks will be exposed and taken advantage of, but ensuring your wide men have speed and endurance, one of the centre backs comes out to double team the attack coming down the flank which allows the other two centre backs to push over, and joined by the opposite wide midfielder the three at the back is still in place. Essentially, when the players know what to do, dealing with wing attacks, you have a standard four man defence. As crosses will be plenty, defenders need to be tall and strong to win the headers.

Attacking, the centre midfielder needs to be able to pick passes and have composure. All the play will come through him and your two advanced midfielders need to show a big threat to ensure the two opposing centre mids come back to cover their threat, thus allowing your CM has space to play.
Your strikers need pace and movement. Pace for when your team are pegged back and a quick counter can find them running through, and movement for when you're camped just outside their penalty box, and to make space for your attacking mids to run into and shoot.

This formation always scored goals, but expect to ship a few goals too.

But I play it on football manager so what do I know?! :D

Why use a 3 -3 - 2 -2?
by: Travis

I am thinking of using a new formation next season. Why did you choose this one for your team?
