The Importance of Making The Right Decision in Your Soccer Life

by Daniel
(Odessa, TX, USA)

In high school I was about 170lbs at 5'5" and I have broad shoulders. However, I was fit for playing a full soccer game. After I went off to Jr. College to play football (American) and came back as an overly worked 200lbs. My body fat had gone up by 25% due to lack of exercise over the summer and all that muscle quickly turned into fat.

I was then sitting at 210lbs with 34% body fat. My Messi like body had gone to a husky waste within a year. I started working out again using tips from this site and using workouts from High School and Club soccer. But my biggest enemy was distractions and self confidence. I hardly had time from work to work out and constantly seeing pictures of me did not motivate me but depressed me more.

Until i made the decision to commit 45 minutes a day, for 5 days of the week to workout. I would jog for 15 minutes then do interval training for 10 after, and the other 10 minutes was used warming up before and after. Now after only two months of following this routine I am at 200lbs and 27% body fat more or less. I feel better and look a whole lot better too.

I still have a lot of work left because I want to try out for a semi-pro team at the beginning of next year. But my point is as long as you make the decision and stick to it, everything will be fine. I tell myself every day, if I workout I will get in shape, and if I don’t, then I nobody is going to that for me.

Remember, it takes the same amount of time to watch an hour show or do nothing for an hour as it does to work out for an hour. But watching TV won’t give you the edge in the game, but the hour of practice and training will. Make the decision, train for a reason, play for yourself!
