The Right Soccer Position?

by Carl Wilson
(Ghaba)

I am a division 3 player and I have been played soccer since my childhood. However, I still have some problems with finding out the right soccer position for me. My coach use to play me at any soccer position he wanted. I didn’t like that as I was put in the goal in our first four league games which is the last position that I want to play.

So, I complained bitterly and my team went for a new keeper. Now for the rest of the games, I did not see myself in any position. One game I was playing as right full back and later in the game I was moved to the forward because our forward was not performing any well.

In that game, I scored two goals, and created one as well. Now our coach has leaved us and traveled to China living us without a club to play for. I want to move to a different club but I do not know which position to play.

I was not either able to register for any club this season because I feared I might not perform any well if I play on a position that I am not suited for. However, I don't want to sit at home next season either, and wondering what positions I should play on. What should I do? Can you give me any advices?

THE ANSWER

Hello Carl, first of all, I want to start by saying that I feel your pain and I am sorry that your coach left your guys without a club to play for. However, you need to realize one thing, and it is the fact that no one will find a club for you! If you don’t do it by yourself, then you will keep sitting at your room and wonder "what if". So, the first thing I would do if I was you would be to find a club and start to play for it. It doesn’t matter what position you will play at, just make sure to play.

After a while, I would ask the coach what he believes is the best position for me. If he responds that you should play as left fullback, libero, midfielder, forward etc I would trust him and do my best. It sounds to me that you would perform very well as a forward, but again, it is up to your future coach to decide that.

If you really want to find out what position suits you best I would recommend you to check out The Ultimate Guide To Soccer Positions. This is a book where I have collected all secrets and important things about any soccer position. With other words, with the help of this book, plus hard work, I can’t see that you would fail to find the appropriate soccer position.

All the best /Mirsad
