Things I’ve Learned about Soccer Fitness

by Ray
(West Virginia, U.S)

I’ve been playing soccer for 10 years and I’ve learned that soccer fitness is an important part of your performance. You see, it doesn’t matter how good ball skills you have if you can’t run more than 20 minutes per game. I’ve read somewhere that a soccer player usually has the ball at his feet maximum 2 minutes per game. The rest is all about running.

However, I’ve also learned that you should not put so much focus on your fitness until you fill 15 or so. Instead, you should focus entirely on your ball skills and improve them as much as possible. Once you fill 15 I would recommend you to take some own responsibility in building your overall fitness. If you are short of time you can do like me. Every morning you should force yourself to perform sit-ups and push-ups.

I usually perform 4 sets (2 for sit-ups and 2 for push-ups). In the beginning I was not even able to perform 10 push-ups without getting tired. But after a while I managed to even set a record 60 in a row! By doing push-ups and sit-ups you will be able to increase your overall strength which will make you stronger and more resistant against injuries.

My 2 cents about soccer fitness /Ray.
