Tips For Receiving The Ball Successfully

by Mark
(Colorado)

A lot of players like to stand and wait for the ball instead moving towards it. If you do so, your opponents will have no problems with stopping you and clear the ball away from you. Make sure also that you are on your toes. Don’t drill your feet into the ground and wait for the ball to arrive.

Another thing that I like to do when is to always turn my head over the shoulder to see where my opponents are. You should do this immediately after the ball is passed to you. If you study professional players you will notice that they do this each time the ball is passed to them.

I’ve learned that a player should always try to use the inside part of his foot to receive the ball. The reason is simple; this part of foot is the most accurate one and also the most easiest to shield. However, sometimes you will be forced to use other parts as well like inside and instep. It is therefore important that you master them as well.

If you have ever played a real game you obviously know that receiving a ball in a game with real opponents is completely different then playing against your teammates during your training. The reason is that your opponents will chase you like hungry wolves and will take any necessary measurements to conquer the ball from you.

This is why it is so important to play as many games as possible. Only on this way you will be able to develop your skills and become a better soccer player. It is not just enough to practice and practice, you need to adapt what you’ve learned in real games.
