When the team desires to play a possession type of soccer, the one two pass can be used to achieve this aim. The goal is to keep possession for as long as possible. The one two pass ensures that the player with the ball passes it on to his nearest team mate, while moving and making space to enable him receive a possible return pass.
With this method, the opponent is easily worn down and frustrated due to an inability to win the ball because of the exchange of quick, short passes by the attacking team.
Barcelona Football club has used this method to a great advantage. Using this method of passing, however, requires frequent practice and a high level of concentration. It also requires patience as the game may not be fast-paced and it may take a while to get the ball into the opponent's vital area.
An example is when Argentina recorded 26 uninterrupted passes before scoring a goal in the Germany 2006 world cup. When this skill is mastered, the resultant football is a beauty to behold, especially, when it is complemented with goals from strikers who are very decisive in front of goal.
