How to Use Your Heel to Pass The Ball

There are situations on the soccer field where using your heel is the ultimate passing method.

However, before we start to discuss why and where you should use this pass, you need to first learn how to execute it.

This is really a piece of cake and you will be able to perform it successfully in just a minute.

Here is How to Perform it:

  • Plant the foot of your supporting leg to the side.
  • Now move it in front of the ball.
  • Swing your kicking foot backwards.
  • Strike the ball with your heel or roll the ball back with the sole of your shoe.

That was pretty easy, don’t you agree? The backward pass is great for situations with many opponents around you.

However, you should avoid using it on your own side of the field. There is a risk that you may pass the ball to your opponents and they could easily take advantage on that with a fast contra attack.

Smooth Touch on the Ball

One other thing you should be aware of while is to only touch the ball smoothly. One problem with performing this type of pass is that you may stumble.

It is therefore important to try out this pass during a practice first. This will tell you whether you are ready to perform it during a game or not.

The ideal situation for executing this type of soccer pass is while standing still. However, it can be also performed while running but it will require higher concentration.

Be Cautious

There is also a higher risk for stumbling on the ball so you need to be cautious. One other thing you will face when executing this type of pass is that you will not be able to monitor the movement of your teammates.

This because you will have your back to them and seeing if they are moving right or left is not that easy as being non-inverted.

You should also not use this passing method to often as your opponents may learn your body language and with help of that predict what you are about to do.

Summary

As with every new soccer skill you need to take your time to learn it properly. As I mentioned earlier, performing this skill is not difficult.

However, you can’t expect to master it after one single practice. Instead, have patience and work on it regularly.

There are plenty of moves that I still practice, even though I’ve played soccer for a very long time.

Make sure that you don’t fall into the trap of thinking everything should come to you overnight!
