5 Practice Ideas You Should Use to Your Advantage on The Soccer Field

Here are 5 practice ideas that you can practice on by yourself. These are my personal favorites and I used to practice on them often and regularly.

I’m a huge proponent of solo practice, as it really allows you to highlight your skills.

Make sure to involve these ideas during your regular practice and even if they seem pretty basic, they are highly efficient and crucial for your development.

1. Kicking the Ball Against a Wall

This one is my personal favorite of all training ideas. It is a great drill if you are practicing alone.

This way of practicing is more fun than it sounds. You can for example practice on your inside, outside or instep part of your foot.

Keep in mind just to use your both feet while practicing because on that way you will be twice harder to stop on the soccer field.

When you have a shooting or passing chance there is simply no time to wait and that is why you need to be skillful with both your feet.

2. Juggling With Different Parts of Your Body

This way of practicing is great during your soccer warm up, especially when preparing for soccer matches. The idea is to juggle the ball with all parts of your body (head, shoulders, feet etc.)

3. Performing Runs with the Ball at Your Feet

This one is great for your overall soccer technique and speed. One popular drill you can use is to perform 30 yard runs having the ball on your foot.

However, the important thing is to have the ball under control while running with it.

There is simply no point to run fast if you can’t control the ball. Start slowly and increase your speed with the ball as you gain more control.

4. Practice on Long Passes

Put the ball about 40 yards away from the goal and then kick it. The ball should not land on the ground before reaching the goal.

As you probably know, being able to perform good and quality long passes is vital whether you are playing as defender or midfielder.

Try first to practice with a non moving ball. After a while you could have the ball rolling on the ground, which will make it much more difficult to hit the goal. However practicing in this way will prepare you for real game situations.

5. Practice with a Small Ball

Did you know that a smaller ball will increase your level of skill dramatically? A small ball is great for practicing on your backyard or room.

You can easily juggle with it and perform other tricks like catching the ball on your neck.

However, you should not try to perform an overhead kick, especially if you are practicing in your room 🙂

Summary

As you can see, these practice ideas are ideal as a complement to your regular training sessions. I suggest you try to practice on these as much as you can as they will increase your soccer skills by several levels.
